Brand New Day - Chapter 40: Epilogue

Part XX

Chapter 40:

It was August.
About 7 months ago I was being dragged though the woods, about to be taken to my favorite State, to be experimented on and controlled.
Now here I was about to start University tomorrow and I was scared out of my mind.
Robert, Lydia, Doug, Greg, and I all got an apartment together. We figured we all had been through so much together, it seemed only fitting. Besides now Doug and Lydia were dating. I felt bad for Greg though, he was stuck as the 5th wheel between us. But he would find someone someday.

Tomorrow, Robert would start his job at the rec. center. He would be helping people who had been upgraded and some who still had their talents, adjust to life now. It was like Recovering Upgraders. (Obviously not the actual name, but I thought it was funny.)
Lydia would be going to St. Edwards University with me here in Austin.
Greg and Doug were going to be working in a garage working on cars of course. They didn't need to go to school, since they were 22, they already graduated with degrees.

Everything felt just too good. These past few months were great, nothing had gone wrong, but I could feel something. Like it wasn't over yet.
I had been thinking about AMICAL.
I still don't know what it is, but I know they were a part of the R.F.I. in their plan. And I wondered if they were still out there. I had asked Robert one day, but he told me the Police probably shut them down as well. But the key word was "probably." How did we know it was all over? What if they were just planning a bigger attack?
I always tried to block these thoughts out.
I hated thinking like that, but I couldn't help it.

Robert and I went and took a walk around Town Lake. The sun was just about to set. It was beautiful, all sorts of colors filled the sky. Robert had a look on his face, like he was trying to take it in and remember this moment forever.
We walked the whole trail in about an hour, not really saying much. Just asking questions like, "are you excited for tomorrow," and things like that. But I didn't mind, this moment was perfect and one I did want to keep forever.

Right before we got into his car, he walked around to my side and pulled me in for an extremely passionate kiss. More than what was necessary, but of course I didn't mind.
It was like we were kissing for the last time, like it was our last day on Earth.
But I suppose tomorrow will be the start of a brand new day.

A/N: So that is the end, any questions, comments or concerns? Just so you all know, I will be working on a sequel, but I don't know when that will start to be posted. Because right now I need a break, but I will of course keep you updated. :D

Brand New Day - Chapter 39

Part XX

Chapter 39:

Back home.
It was weird being back in Texas. For it felt like an eternity when I was in Oregon. When really it was about a month. So I did have a lot to catch up on.

My parents were not upset about anything. They had told me that they had chips controlling them as well. For some reason though, I wasn't sure if I believed them or not. But I only had a few more months with them until I would be out doing my own thing, so I didn't really care.

Monday.
Ugh, my first day back at school.
Robert, Lydia and my parents all came up with different lies to tell the school as to why we were gone for so long. I know they didn't truly believe it, but all I really cared about was just getting my make-up work.
Geez, the stuff I missed would take weeks to completely finish. I guess that's what I get for trying to do some good.
Oh well.

So it turns out Greg and Doug were originally from Dallas, Texas and since they didn't really have anything left back in Portland, they decided to move down to Austin.
The five of us really began to bond. Saving each others lives really bring people together.
Also Jones really did come through for us. He turned in The Facility over to the Police, they shut down those buildings as well. The Police had found every R.F.I. linked building in the country and shut them down quick. And somehow they had managed to close all R.F.I buildings down all around the world. So there was one long job done.

I never did get my talent back and I was a bit saddened by this. Having it back when I was upgraded, made me feel so important and sort of powerful. But now I only felt weak and empty.
Lydia still had hers, but like Robert, it was a bit fuzzy. Now though, she could get into my head and manipulate me. Another reason why I felt weak. Even before I was upgraded, I could stop her, but now my head was open to everyone.
Ugh.

"Hey Sara," Robert said, right before he kissed me on the lips.
"Hey," I whispered.
Things felt so perfect now, but I knew not to jinx it.
"Do you want to go to Prom with me and there will be an after party?" Robert asked rather nervously.
"Um... do you think we could stay away from parties. I don't really have good luck with them," this was so true.
He laughed and looked really relieved.
"Thank god, I so didn't want to go. But Lydia insisted that I ask," he smiled.
Then we both just busted out laughing.
Of course Lydia would.
I wished this wouldn't end.
I wished that my life could be just like this moment forever.
I was so tired of needles, doctors, power hungry people, and running for my life.
If only the World could be perfect.

Brand New Day - Chapter 38

Part XIX

Chapter 38:

Sara, Doug, Greg and I got into Portland at around 3 pm.
We had Jones call and tell them we were coming back, he said he wanted to help. We weren't so sure, we decided to take precautions and had weapons ready. Mark was still drugged and unconscious.
Before leaving we called the Police about the R.F.I. and I guess it had checked out, because when we made it into Headquarters, they had it surrounded. But Greg and Doug got some of their "friends" to come and help out. We were loaded with all sorts of guns and other weapons, ready to take them on.
We stormed the building. Doug went and pulled the fire alarm, which was perfect. Greg and I split up and took a group of about 20 people with us. He went for the leaders, like Perry, the Head Director, and the Board members. And my group headed for the room where they are controlling everyone.
We ran down to the basement, the door was locked, but we broke it down. Who cares anyway. I was searching for a way to stop everything, without having to go and shut down each computer separately. One of the guys with me pointed to the wall. I looked up and what do you know; a giant red button.
Hm...
It looked tempting, like something you shouldn't push.
So I went over, slowly rested my hand on it and with one slight press on it, all the computers cut to black, along with the lights.
Geez they really made that too easy.
Another guy came with explosives, "are we ready for it?" he asked.
"Not yet, we have to wait for Greg to give us the signal," I said.
I pulled out the Walkie Talkie that Greg and I each had, and held it up to my mouth, "are we ready Greg?"
"Yes, we got 'em all. The SWAT team came and helped out as well. Everyone has cleared the building, so if you guys are ready, then do it," he said back.
"Okay," I announced back through to Greg.
"So let's do this thing," everyone in my group nodded, "how long do we have to exit before it goes off?"
"Approximately one minute," the explosive guy said.
"Okay get it ready, the rest of you, get ready to run."
They nodded again.
Explosive man set it and the minute he hit the button and it started the countdown, we busted though there. We didn't waste time on the elevators, we just went straight to the stairs. We were weaving through hallways and random chairs and things, that had been left in the chaos. Finally in which felt like forever, we reached the Lobby and darted through the doors.
Outside was filled with hundreds of onlookers wondering what was about to happen, when all of the sudden....
BANG!
The ground shook under everyone's feet and slowly flames made their way through the building.
Yes, we did it.
Doug ran up to me, "hey they got everyone. Greg and the SWAT put all of them in these trucks and now they are off to prison. Supposedly the Police had been hearing things about an organization planning a massive attack. We just led them to it, so it worked out better than we expected."
"Great, so do we know if the chips are working or -"
"Hey," Lydia said, interrupting my question.
"So... no more chip controlling you?"
She shook her head and pulled me into an embrace, "thank you so much Robert," she slowly let go, "and thank you..."
"Doug"
"Yes, thank you Doug."
He began to blush, then Lydia went and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Then his face really turned as red as a tomato.
I chuckled and he just glared at me.
"Where's Greg?" I asked.
"He went to go get Sara from the lot. He figured y'all would want to see each other after you saved the day," he said sarcastically.
I rolled my eyes.
"Sara!" Lydia shouted.
I turned and saw her running towards us.
She ran up and grabbed Lydia and I both into a huge hug.
"I'm so glad we are all alright," she whispered.
"Me too," Lydia and I both said at the same time.

A/N: So there really is a type of button, that can turn of all the power in a room. We have one in my physics class, just in case you thought I was being cheesy with the big red button thing. Also there will only be two more chapters left of the book after this. XD

Brand New Day - Chapter 37

Part XVIII

Chapter 37:

Well here I was, stuck in my head, while my best friend went to go find my other best friend and I was stuck here.
Sara left about 6 days ago, if they found Robert, then they should be here either today or tomorrow.

Chip took me down to the "control room," which is literally what it is. It is this huge room filled with people controlling others chips. Every time I came down here I wondered if just by pushing a button, all the computers would shut down; stopping their control on people. But I highly doubted it, they wouldn't be that dumb. Even if there was one, I couldn't do anything. I wished I was as strong as Sara; that I would move little parts of my body, but sadly I wasn't able to.
"Well it turns out they found 303," Perry stated.
"Great, are they on their way back?" Chip asked.
"Yes and they also got Greg and Doug Kirk. They should be arriving in an hour."
"Does the Head Director know?"
"Not yet."
"Well go and tell him instead of just standing around," Chip demanded. I seriously think Chip is bipolar.
"Yes, um... right on it 306," Perry said nervously.
I heard someone at a computer giggle.
That must be the one who is controlling Chip.
Hm...
Oh yeah and I am Specimen 306. It has a nice ring to it, I think.
So Robert and Sara are on their way back. I wonder what happened? And what they will do to him and the Kirk boys?

It had been almost an hour and I was becoming super anxious. I still couldn't get the though of what might happen out of my mind.
Ugh.
It was really driving me crazy.
I was trying to see if I could get into Robert's or Sara's mind, but I didn't know where they were or if my talent worked from a distance. I couldn't pick anything up though.

Five minutes later, as Chip was taking me down this really long corridor to one of the hospital rooms, the fire alarm sounded, blaring above. Everyone began to scatter, searching for the exit. Chip ran straight to the stairs, to the ground floor and ran through the massive crowds that were going through the revolving doors to outside. There was about 300 of us standing around. I hoped everyone made it out, no matter how much I hated the R.F.I., I didn't want to see anyone hurt, if that makes sense. Chip began searching the sky for black smoke, but we saw none.
That's odd.
Then we heard sirens pulling closer, from out of the trees came about 5 police cars. I thought that normally it was the Fire Department who came first? Each cop car had two Police Officers, they ran out; bullet proof vests, guns, the whole thing. Then a minute later the SWAT team showed up.
Why do they need to be here, if it's just a fire?

Brand New Day - Chapter 36

Part XVII

Chapter 36:

“Is she awake yet?” Doug asked over my shoulder.

“Not yet,” I said. I hadn’t left her side since we extracted the chip out.

Greg was pacing around the room, he was afraid the surgeon messed up on taking the chip out. The surgeon; Dr. Grant was a specialist on mainly plastic surgery, but Greg and Doug had bribed him into taking the chip out without any questions. He had done mine a few days ago and then Sara’s yesterday evening. But Greg was just paranoid and Doug was just impatient.

Sara’s eyes began to flutter.

“Sara,” I breathed out.

She blinked her eyes, slowly opening them and then she glanced up at me. We stared into each other’s eyes for what felt like forever, when she suddenly pulled me into an embrace.

“Ooh…ow,” she reached and felt her bandaged neck.

“Yeah, you might want to take it easy,” I smiled and kissed her forehead.

“Wait I can move and talk,” she gasped, “you took the chip out?”

“Yes.”

Tears began swelling in her eyes, “thank you so much Robert…I love you and I am so sorry about New Year’s.”

“Please, we are way past that, but I love you too.”

I kissed her again, but this time softly on the lips.

“Where’s Jones and Mark?” she asked.

“We took care of them. We just drugged them and now they will be out for a while. Oh yeah this is Doug and Greg.”

“Nice to meet you,” she smiled at both of them.

“Same to you,” they both said.

They did that all the time, but with identical twins I suppose it was alright.

“So what happened?” Sara questioned.

“Well we knew you guys were coming after us. They forget they have someone able to see the future. So I saw the house they were taking you to and we just hid, ready to take them out. Sorry I had to drug you, but I didn’t know how strong your chip was and I didn’t want to take any chances. But yeah it was way too easy. Then we took you to this surgeon Dr. Grant who took my chip out and he did the same for you.”

“Speaking of chips and things, I can’t feel my talent anymore,” she announced.

Man, I knew this would happen.

“Yeah, I thought so. When you have the chip, it is like the only thing keeping the talent mostly.”

“But you could still have visions,” she interrupted.

“I know, but they got to you much later. So the talent didn’t get a chance to become permanent. Mine since I was younger, it has more time to develop. I will admit though, my talent is a bit fuzzier without the chip. But it is still slightly there.”

“Oh,” she said, “so what do we do now? We need to get Lydia and somehow stop them in Portland.”

“I know. We will get Lydia I promise,” I said reassuringly.

“We already have a plan,” Doug announced.

Brand New Day - Chapter 35

Part XVI

Chapter 35:

I knew it would be bad.

I was happy Robert was out, but I was breaking inside at the thought of me bringing him back.

It had been 3 days since the meeting and the detectives found Robert and the two other guys Doug and Greg in Elizabethtown, North Carolina. We were packing to go and force them back.

Lydia hat to stay, the R.F.I. didn’t want to risk having us both out.

She had been helping me to calm down, she could tell I was nervous.

What if Robert hated me for this?

There had to be a way to not let it happen, I just didn’t know what it was.

We were on a plane and I was stuck sitting next to Jones. He whispered, “Look Sara I know you’re in there and I know you can hear me. So just listen, I have in my hand your monitoring system,” he showed me this type of Palm Pilot device with a bunch of figures and graphs. “I can decide what to have you do. I can shock you at the touch of a button.”

I winced.

Crap, I wasn’t supposed to show I could move.

“I knew it,” he whispered even quieter.

I had been getting stronger. I was able to go closer to the restrictions without struggling. It was becoming more natural in ways. But I still couldn’t truly control my whole self without them knowing.

“I want to help you, but you have to trust me.”

Pfft… yeah right. He was the reason for everything, well sort of. But he was the one to take me to get upgraded.

I didn’t want his help, so I gave a little shake to my head, to say no.

“Please, I can, I can completely stop your chip from controlling you or I can make it hurt you even more.”

So he was threatening me to trust him, but what other choice did I have.

“Do you believe me that I will help you? I won’t hurt you unless it is necessary.”

I winked, forgetting he didn’t know my sign language.

“I’ll take that as a yes.”

Crap.

We arrived in about 4 hours and luckily we didn’t have much luggage, because it was only 3 of us. One guy who was like the bodyguard. His name is Mark, he had big broad shoulders, dark skin, light brown hair and gorgeous hazel eyes. He was dressed in all black. (Maybe they thought it was intimidating.) And of course there was Jones and I.

We all squeezed into a small Red Chevy truck that only had the front seats. Mark drove and had the GPS programmed to a house that was where Robert and the others were supposedly staying.

About an hour later we arrived. We proceeded into the house, Mark didn’t bother knocking, he just waltzed in. Jones was still carrying my monitoring system. I wish he would turn my chip off, but Mark would get suspicious. So we stepped into the living room, but there was no furniture anywhere.

Why would Robert hide here?

“Hello?” Jones called, “Robert if you’re here, we have your precious Sara with us. And if you don’t show yourself, I will take matters into my own hands. Meaning Sara will be in excruciating pain, because of you.”

Don’t do it Robert, please just stay hidden. I was hoping to myself that he would do that.

Then I heard a muffled yelp and a dragging sound.

I pushed through and moved my head side to side and saw Jones and Mark had disappeared.

Then there was a hand over my mouth and a needle in my arm.

“Uh not again,” I thought to myself just before I was out.

Brand New Day - Chapter 34

Part XV

Chapter 34:

“So do you know where we’re going?” I thought. I could see Sara shrug a little. “Hm…guess we’ll find out.”

I have been stuck in my head for over 2 weeks now and it was driving me crazy. One thing I was semi happy about was school went back in session 2 days ago, so I lucked out of having to go, but that also meant loads of makeup work, if I ever got out of here. At least I could talk to Sara, even if she couldn’t say anything back, the small gestures she could do was her way of speaking to me.

Chip walked me into a large conference room, not the one from before, but a new one with pretty much the same layout as the other, except there were no windows.

At the front of the table was the Head Director, whose name escaped me, but it did begin with a B or so I thought. On opposite sides of him were board members; 3 women and 4 men, all around the same ages, I would guess all around their 40’s. Next to them were Perry, Andrew; from The Facility (I couldn’t think of why he was here), Jones, some other people who obviously worked for the R.F.I. and AMICAL, and there were about 6 other upgraded people besides Sara and I.

Why would they want all these people in a meeting together? What could have happened? Or better yet, what is going to happen?

The Head Director cleared his throat, “well we are here today because as you know our upgrades are failing. The bodies that are resisting have become too strong to even take to the new chip. So we must find a new way to implant in them or just something totally different to allow complete control.” Everyone in the room was nodding their head in agreement. “Perry have you found out any more about Specimen 303?”

“Well Sir…uh… we found out who the two men were who took him out, it was Doug and Greg Kirk. The chip in 303 was last recoded in Kentucky. We sent some men to go and find him, when they got to where the chip was located; it turned out to be a dumpster. So somehow they managed to get it out.”

“Hm…”

“But we do have some very well trained private detectives out searching.”

“Good, because we cannot let what is happening here get out or else it all fails.”

Everyone nodded again.

Who was Specimen 303, it sounded familiar. I had a feeling it was Robert, but I couldn’t be sure. And who were Doug and Greg? Why would they help anyone and why were they in Kentucky?

“Do you think this guy who got away is Robert?” I questioned Sara.

She winked.

That was here sign for yes.

The Head Director began speaking again, “we must do everything in our power to get 303 back, is that clear?”

Nods again.

“Sir, I think I may know a way,” said Jones.

“And what would that be?”

“Sara,” he said poignantly.

Everyone turned to look at her.

“Sir, she would be able to get Robert near us. Even if he knows it is not her inside, he still wouldn’t want anything happening to her.”

So it was Robert.

“So if we get the location of the 3, then we will take Sara with us and lure him back. But we will have to monitor her very carefully.”

“Hm…that just may work.”

Jones grinned at this.

“Well let’s get moving,” the Head Director snapped.

“This could be very bad right?” I thought to Sara.

She winked.
